Festival of Faiths

India is a land of diverse cultures, traditions and religions. Although people practice this diversity in different forms and nature, it is carried out with the ultimate aim to promote peace and harmony in the country. The different customs, traditions, faith leadership, rituals and practices existent in North-East India possess a distinct uniqueness. Celebration of different festivals of various faiths continue to remain a unique characteristic feature of India’s democratic set up which is marvelled at by several countries around the globe.

India’s North East is endowed with great socio-demographic diversity. Over 150 scheduled tribes and 400 other sub-tribal communities live in the region. Despite its heterogeneity the region is quite distinct as it is evident in the indigenous peoples’ shared history and culture and also common belief and practices in tune with mother nature.

Festival of Faiths is an effort to bring together the distinct traditions, customs and faith practices of different tribes and ethnic communities of the North-East. Besides bringing together religious leaders of almost all major religions in India and its neighbouring countries, the festival intends to showcase and celebrate the richness of the region’s religio-cultural diversity and the underlying unity.

Between 31st March, 1st and 2nd April, the city of Guwahati will be abuzz with the festive spirit of celebration and conversations, hopeful to reinforce India’s syncretic culture marked by ‘Unity in Diversity’.
